What is a Jambu?



The Jambu fruit has two known variants. One being the guava, and another being the rose apple. The guava is green in colour and the rose apple is red in colour. The guava gives a hard and juicy texture while the rose apple gives a crispy texture. Both these jambu can be found in Malaysia especially in rest and refreshment areas. Both the jambu can be enjoyed with a special sauce called the rojak sauce where the jambu is dipped into the sauce. This fruit originates itself from Central America and Mexico where it’s been cropped for centuries.

What are the Health Benefits?

Protects against common infections. The rich source of vitamin C found in the guava and rose can protect against common infections. Diabetes-friendly. Eating lots of guava or will not increase sugar level. This is due to the rich fibre content. The fiber content ensures the sugar levels are well regulated. Aids Digestion. Due to the high fiber content of rose apples and guavas, this will aid the digestive system. Regulates Blood Pressure. The fruit has a lot of potassium even more than a banana as a matter of fact. Potassium has been known to help with regulating blood pressure.

Guavas and rose apples, contains 4 times more fiber than a pineapple and 4 times more vitamin c than an orange. The lifespan of the guava tree can last up to 40 years Guava should be eaten like an apple because the skin carries high amount of Vitamin C. Fruit of guava contains 100 to 500 miniature seed, located in the middle of the fruit. Seed are edible. Some varieties of guava are seedless. Tea made of guava leaves is used in treatment of diarrhea, fever and dysentery. Guava can be sliced and consumed raw, or in the form of smoothies, jellies, ice-creams, syrups, marmalades and jams. Guava is also used as an ingredient of various alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to help cooldown from the hot weather.
