What is a Soursop?



Soursop is also known as graviola, it’s a large, spiny, and green tropical fruit with a sweet flesh which is the basis of several beverages, ice creams and other sweet foods in popular in South America. The soursop is native to tropical Central and South America and the Caribbean, but is now widely cultivated in tropical areas worldwide, including southern Florida and Southeast Asia. It has a similar aroma to a pineapple but has a sour or musky flavour. Soursop trees grows up to 30 feet and is tolerant to soil, although the soursop trees grow best in a well-drained sandy soil. The tree is not able to tolerate cold or strong sustained winds but flourishes well with a wet environment. Soursop also contains abundant vitamin C and several B vitamins such as thiamin, riboflavin and niacin, along with calcium, phosphorus and a small amount of iron.

What Are The Health Benefits of a Soursop?


The soursop tree and the fruit itself is known to relieve stomach distress, fever, pain and respiratory problems. Soursop's acetogenins have compounds that have been most studied, especially for their potential to be able to prevent or slow the growth of cancer. Soursop contains a high about of vitamin C which is supposedly helpful to skin problems and a way to maintain good skin.
