What is a Starfruit?



Starfruits is known as carambola, it’s a star-shaped tropical fruit with a sweet and sour flavour. The star fruit is a native to the Malayan peninsula and has been cultivated in many parts of Southeast Asia, Pacific Islands and China for its fruits. Although starfruits are plentiful and abundant, carambolas are yet to gain popularity in Malaysia, especially in the western world. Starfruits grows well in hot, humid, tropical conditions. Starfruits can be categorized into two distinct varieties, one of them has a light greenish type look which is salty in taste and the second one looks like a mellow yellow with a sweet undertone. Starfruits contains several vitamins such as, choline, folate, lutein zeaxanthin, niacin, antothenic acid, riboflavin, thiamine, vitamins C, B6, and E.
